SUPPORTING VETERANS…

Family, Friends, Employment, Neighbors… characteristics of a strong community that can help to improve the lives of Veterans. The strength of a community positively influences physical and mental health and can help Veterans to cope with stress activators. Communities that support those in need give citizens a sense of belonging. The development of social connections cultivate trust and encourages Veteran engagement.

As communities converge to support Veterans, it not only shows appreciation, but gives Veterans a better chance to adapt to their environment. One of the most common struggles for many Veterans is feeling alone but communities can help to mend that void. It is our duty to cultivate strong communities to empower Veterans to become the best version of themselves and to transition back to a fulfilling and healthy life.

Communities that offer resources and provide opportunities for Veterans are an integral part of society. As we cultivate better communities for Veterans, we strengthen other components of the community like trust, commitment, communication, and sustainability. This will ultimately increase the possibilities for the success of our Heroes. In essence, the mission of this organization, of the community, will always be greater than oneself.

Thanking a Veteran for their service undoubtedly expresses one’s appreciation for the sacrifices our heroes have made, BUT there is so much more that we can do. Opportunities to give back to Veteran communities include volunteering at your local VA Medical Center, participating in Veteran events, transporting Veterans to medical appointment, and most importantly donating and volunteering with our organizations, and the like.
